No Entrepreneur Builds Alone: TMF Group on Visibility, Trust and Strong Networks
A promising idea may be the starting point of a business, but turning that idea into reality requires determination, adaptability and the support of other people.
Entrepreneurs need clients who believe in their offer, partners who open new possibilities, mentors who share their experience and communities that make the journey feel less isolating. For TMF Group, these relationships are not secondary to entrepreneurship—they are an essential part of building a successful and sustainable business.
This belief is one of the reasons why TMF Group is supporting this year’s Entrepreneurial Woman Project and sponsoring its €2,000 prize.
Giving women entrepreneurs greater visibility
TMF Group supports the Entrepreneurial Woman Project because of its belief in entrepreneurship as a driver of innovation, opportunity and positive impact.
What makes EWP particularly meaningful is its ability to provide talented women entrepreneurs with a platform where their ideas and achievements can be seen, heard and recognised.
“We often meet inspiring women who are building successful businesses, overcoming challenges and creating value, yet their achievements do not always receive the visibility they deserve.”
Visibility can have a tangible effect on an entrepreneur’s journey. It can help her reach potential clients, establish new partnerships, meet mentors and gain greater confidence in the value she is creating.
By placing women-led businesses in the spotlight, EWP not only celebrates what participants have already achieved. It also helps them communicate their ideas, strengthen their professional presence and connect with people who may contribute to the next stage of their development.
More than an award
TMF Group sees the Entrepreneurial Woman Project as much more than a competition or award.
The programme brings people together, facilitates an exchange of experiences and gives participants access to a community of entrepreneurs, experts and business professionals. This matters because building a business can sometimes feel like a lonely journey.
Strong networks provide both practical and emotional support. They create a space in which entrepreneurs can ask questions, exchange ideas, learn from other people’s experiences and discover opportunities they may not have encountered alone.
TMF Group hopes its prize will give the winner a meaningful sense of confidence and recognition after the dedication, resilience and hard work involved in developing her business.
Beyond the award itself, the organisation hopes that the recognition will open new doors.
“Sometimes a single opportunity or introduction can make a significant difference in an entrepreneur’s journey.”
A new connection may lead to a partnership, a future client, a mentoring relationship or an entirely unexpected direction for the business. Most importantly, the prize can reinforce the winner’s belief that she is on the right path and encourage her to continue pursuing her ambitions.
An idea is only the starting point
Successful entrepreneurs are not necessarily those who begin with the most original or perfectly developed ideas. Often, they are the people who have the determination to transform their ideas into action.
Entrepreneurship requires resilience because setbacks and difficult periods are inevitable. It also demands adaptability, as markets, customer expectations and circumstances can change quickly.
Curiosity is equally important. Entrepreneurs must remain willing to learn, seek feedback, ask questions and reconsider their assumptions. An idea that works in theory often needs to evolve through conversations with customers and experience in the market.
Relationships are another essential part of this process.
Building trust with clients, partners, employees and mentors can be just as important as developing a strong product or service. A business does not operate in isolation; its growth depends on the people who choose to support it, recommend it and participate in its development.
“At the end of the day, an idea is only the starting point. What truly makes the difference is the perseverance to keep moving forward, even when the path is not always straightforward.”
Do not wait until everything feels perfect
One of TMF Group’s central messages to women at the beginning of their entrepreneurial journey is not to wait for perfect conditions before taking the first step.
Many successful businesses did not begin with a complete plan. They evolved gradually through conversations with customers, lessons from mistakes and continuous adaptation.
Entrepreneurs do not need to have every answer from the beginning. They need enough confidence to test their ideas, present their expertise and remain receptive to what they learn.
“Trust your expertise, have confidence in what you bring to the table and don’t be afraid to put yourself out there.”
Progress comes from action. Each conversation, experiment and piece of feedback can help refine the business and clarify what should happen next.
TMF Group also encourages women to give themselves permission to develop alongside their businesses. As a company grows, its founder will acquire new skills, encounter new challenges and become more confident in areas that may initially have felt unfamiliar.
“The entrepreneur you are today does not have to be the entrepreneur you will be in five years’ time.”
Asking for help is a strength
A common challenge among entrepreneurs is the belief that they must do everything themselves.
Particularly in the early stages of a business, founders may feel pressure to become experts in strategy, marketing, finance, operations, sales and administration simultaneously. Trying to manage every area alone can quickly become overwhelming and may prevent an entrepreneur from focusing on the work where she creates the greatest value.
Recognising when to ask for advice, delegate responsibility or seek specialised support is therefore an important entrepreneurial skill.
“No one builds a successful business alone.”
Mentors, advisors, business partners and trusted peers can help entrepreneurs navigate challenges more effectively. They offer fresh perspectives, identify risks and opportunities, and share knowledge that may otherwise take years to develop independently.
Asking for help is not a sign that an entrepreneur is incapable. It is often one of the most strategic decisions she can make.
Trust as a business asset
Entrepreneurship is fundamentally about people.
A strong product or service matters, but so do the relationships an entrepreneur develops with clients, partners, employees, mentors and other stakeholders.
Trust takes time to earn. Once established, however, it can become one of a business’s most valuable assets. People are more likely to work with, support and recommend someone they trust and enjoy collaborating with.
For aspiring entrepreneurs, this means that building a network should not be treated as an activity separate from developing the business. The two processes are closely connected.
Meaningful professional relationships can provide support during challenging periods, create access to new knowledge and generate opportunities that would be difficult to reach alone.
Seeing challenges differently
A mindset that has supported growth within TMF Group is learning to view challenges as opportunities for development rather than simply obstacles to avoid.
This does not mean that difficult situations immediately feel positive. However, navigating uncertainty, stepping outside one’s comfort zone and finding solutions to complex problems can produce some of the most valuable periods of learning.
Progress does not depend on having all the answers. It comes from remaining curious, adapting to new information and continuing to move forward.
Growth is rarely linear. An entrepreneur may experience rapid progress, setbacks, changes of direction and periods of uncertainty. Remaining open to what each stage can teach makes it easier to develop both the business and the person leading it.
A message to this year’s participants
Every established business began with an initial decision to act.
The path that follows may change, and the entrepreneur taking the first step will grow through every challenge, relationship and opportunity she encounters along the way.
TMF Group’s message to this year’s Entrepreneurial Woman Project participants is:
“Keep believing in your vision, stay resilient, and remember that every successful entrepreneur started with a single step.“
Applications for the Entrepreneurial Woman Project are open only until September 10.
